I am nearing the end of my NaNoWriMo experience for 2012, and I have less than 1500 words to do to get me over the finish line.
Today is the first day I actually managed to exceed the expected word count chart – I have finally caught up with myself! I intend to get another 500 or so words done tonight, then the last 1000 tomorrow should leave the story at a very good point; with my two characters just about to unravel a key part of the secret that binds them together…
Having read the guidance I have decided I will submit my story – it gets scrambled for security reasons and automatically deleted, so I feel a bit better than I did about it. I wasn’t worried about someone sneaking off with the story to make millions (ho ho ho), but I didn’t want a copy to exist out in the ether without me having control of it. As that’s no longer an issue I may as well submit and get a shiny certificate, and the word ‘winner’ emblazoned on my NaNo account!
I am now looking forward to Saturday, when I will not work on this story.
At all.
I love the idea, and the characters, and I love how well it is progressing, but creatively I have done nothing but work on this story, and the blog, for 29 days now, and it’s time for something else.
Going forward, I think the first draft concluded by mid January sounds pretty reasonable – I lose 2 weeks with family and friends over Christmas and New Year, and I have to spend some time finishing off the poem for the celebrations in January, so 15th Jan seems pretty fair to me.
Off I toddle to add a few more words – wish me luck!
Happy writing,
EJ
